bathroom soap dish removal
ok, I give up, a soap dish beat me, yes, I'm reaching out to the entire group and showing my skill set.......... it is definitely original to the boat, and it's disgusting and needs to go.
there are no screws, no set screw, nothing, and I can't get it off, it will move up and down and side to side, slightly, but I don't want to force it and crack the fiberglass, anyone happen to know the secret and want to share, it's moments like these I wonder why I think I should own and try to maintain a boat, .................everything else has gone well, but I've met my match with a soap dish......OMG!!

2 Phillips head screws holding my soap dish in.
Easy project. (Unless your boat is different)

Re: bathroom soap dish removal
It is possible that a PO used an adhesive like 5200 to make sure it stayed on! If so, the secret to removing it, once the screws have been taken out, is to hold a small towel that has been soaked in boiling water against it. Use some neoprene oven mitts to hold the towel. Repeat as needed. 5200 will soften and allow it to be pulled off.

Gregg, if your soap dish doesn't look like Norseman's, please post a photo. It does seem like a ridiculous problem, but we've all run into something similar.

Re: bathroom soap dish removal
Yes, need a picture for sure.
If you feel the soap dish is difficult, have you tried to change the raw water pump on your Yanmar, with one of the nuts being stuck on the stud, with the nut having stripped corners due to previous abuse the last 20 years?
All while laying on your belly working In the blind under deck playing touch and feel with your pump and your tools?
If not, you are lucky, so far.
Soap dish any time, day or night, or both.

I saw an engine removed from a boat with a large hole sawn in its side.
Soap dish? Let us know how it goes but don’t give up. We’re all intrigued.

Re: bathroom soap dish removal
I'll grab a pic on Saturday, I did remove the cup holder next to it, it had screws, so that was doable, but this soap dish has nothing, I thought it may have a plate behind it, that it hooks on, and the plate is screwed to the wall, so to remove the dish, I would just need to push up on it, NO WAY!!, it moves a little bit up and down/side to side, but it's not going anywhere, I enjoy a challenge, but this is embarrassing. Pics coming, stand by, the soap dish saga continues..................and no the raw water pump and I haven't yet met, but I'm sure the time will come, the next adventure, after the dish, is both fuel filters. that looks much easier

Re: bathroom soap dish removal
look what I found, I did have a pic on my phone, there is nothing showing in the way of screws or a set screw, nothing on the bottom either, although the pic doesn't show that.[img]

Re: bathroom soap dish removal
It might be a hidden tapered wedge mount. Try tapping the edge of the base gently in an upwards direction to see if it comes loose.

Re: bathroom soap dish removal
Ohhh, that's a toothbrush holder, not a soap dish. No wonder you're having trouble - lol. I wonder if it's attached with some kind of impossible-to-remove adhesive. I do like dkirsop's idea, though.

Re: bathroom soap dish removal
Ouch, now I had to jump on my boat and see about the tooth brush holder:
Sure enough, I got one, pretty corroded and attached with 2 Phillips head screws, just like the soap dish.
(Note to self: I will remove both of these and fill the holes with decorative plastic plugs)

Got them out, screws were kind of loose.
Left is metal, right is chromed plastic.

Matching plastic plugs installed, and soap dispenser in place.
Looks like the picture turned itself 90 degrees, click on it and it will straighten out. (It does on my iPad )You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post. To view images, please register for a free account.

Re: bathroom soap dish removal
Gregg,
I have the same toothbrush holder and a soap dish with the same mount as you. There is a very small flat head set screw underneath in the center at the bottom of the mounting base. Mystery solved!
