wax/bottom paint questions
can anyone provide a bit of advice please,
I understand waxing the hull is necessary, what can be done to protect the deck/bow and roof of the cockpit? is there one wax better than another?
bottom painting: should I paint the rudder, trim tabs drive shaft etc and everything else under the water line? I will not paint the zincs but is there anything else I should not paint, or use something different other than bottom paint.
any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance, Gregg

Re: wax/bottom paint questions
I don’t wax the non-skid but all other above gelcoat surfaces gets a coat or two of this product, best I have ever tried/used:
Expensive stuff but works good,
Competing products on the market for less money however.
As for the metals below the water line, I don’t paint none of that but using PropSpeed instead. Expensive stuff but works good,
Competing products on the market for less money however.

Re: wax/bottom paint questions
I have had good luck for the past several seasons with Pettit Prop Coat Barnacle Barrier Spray - 16 Oz on my prop and rudder.
You will need to get the prop/rudder down to bare metal.
Two coats have worked well for me.

Re: wax/bottom paint questions
Since were on the subject... what about the other metal under the water line? Bronze sea stainers, the inside of the through hulls. Also the Petitt prop coat?? I have my all off the boat and getting them down to bare metal. There is mixed advice on to paint or not to paint metal below the waterline.

Re: wax/bottom paint questions
Other than the prop, if I ever had all my metal down to bare, I would put a couple coats of barrier coat on them, then a couple coats of whatever bottom paint I was using on the hull.
