how to bypass neutral safety switch
Having trouble with one of my Yanmar 6lpa-stp engines. With key on and alarm sounding when hit starter button nothing, or when turn key nothing. Transmission is out of gear I'm sure of that. Can get engine to start if use a wire to jump across neutral safety switch relay from one terminal to another so sure am getting power to engine. Is there an easy way to neutral this relay. Means engine would start even if boat in gear, but willing to live with that

Re: how to bypass neutral safety switch
A mechanic taught me to hold the start button and move the gear shift back and forth, even into forward and reverse if you must, and the engine would fire up always in neutral. . The other option when really in trouble is to jump the starter solenoid with a screw driver. This was a constant issue for me for a number of years. I sprayed the crap out of the area where the gear cable is connected to the engine (I think the safety switch is around that area) with waterproof penetrating oil, Boesheld, and sure enough the problem went away. Your switch maybe gunked up. Good luck!

Re: how to bypass neutral safety switch
Found out the hard way my single Yanmar have 2 safety switches, one on the throttle and one on the tranny.
The tranny one has a little ball valve that wears out and the engine don’t start.
$43 on eBay if you have the ZF tranny.
