Yanmar 6LP STE won’t start
Hey there - looking for some ideas - my Albin didn’t go in the water last season due to Covid. I am preparing to put her in the water in early April - replaced the racor fuel filter, replaced the Yanmar fuel filter - loosened the bolt on the fuel filter and pumped the manual pump to remove air bubbles - cranks over but won’t start.
Pulled one of the fuel lines to the injector and turned her over - fuel pumping out the fuel line. Stumped as to why she won’t start - any suggestions?

Re: Yanmar 6LP STE won’t start
My Yanmar 6LP-STE died last year. After some diagnosis I found the fuel shut off relay badly corroded. Once replaced the engine started. I hope your repair is as easy and cheap.

Make sure it’s not in gear by accident, it won’t start in gear.

Interesting about the fuel shutoff relay. Can’t believe that to be too common though. Don’t believe the engine would crank if in gear.
My best guess is yours - air in the system. Keep purging . Don.

Re: Yanmar 6LP STE won’t start
I had it in gear once. So that’s a possible cause. Another season I also had to replace the fuel relay - the engine would turn over then quit immediately. Bad relay was the issue.

I vote fuel relay too. I was having intermittent issues as well, no more after replacement.

I also had the fuel shutoff relay issue. Picked up a local generic relay and wired it in. They are normally closed and energize to stop.

Re: Yanmar 6LP STE won’t start
My mechanic just replaced my motor mounts. When he went to turn it over it wouldn’t start. He replaced the fuel relay and it instantly started. He said he keeps extra relays in his truck because they are a common issue on the 6lp. Leading up to this I had intermittent starting issues that I new were fuel related but couldn’t nail down the culprit.carolmarie wrote: ↑Fri Apr 02, 2021 12:44 pm Interesting about the fuel shutoff relay.
