Upgrading to 316 SS hose clamps and fitting end guards.
Easy project, so far...

. Does the tiller move free when disconnected from the cylinder?
Removed the cylinder once again today and tested the tiller: It moves freely, but not easily: I can move it slowly from side to side with one hand but prefer both hands if given the choice.

Now got the cylinder back for the second time.
(Returned it as there was a small leak after the first overhaul)
Got it back once again and installed it once again today.
(Getting pretty tired of steering cylinders now)
This time it came back with one of the T-fittings at the wrong angle:

They should be like this:
3966342A-0F89-49A6-BAEC-5DAD54EFF631.jpeg
It was tempting to send it back for the third time, but instead moved a bleed nipple to the other end of the T and torqued the other one 35-40 degrees further. (Don’t try this at home, I could have broken the whole thing with the only choice being a brand new $450 cylinder and the $300 I just spent down the drain)

No guts, no glory, it worked. Cylinder in, a :40 minute test ride complete all is good.

Does anybody have a source for the tackle drawer frames?
(Or try to fix the crack with epoxy?)

Edit:

Tried a fix for the cracked drawer trim:
Used epoxy and drilled hole for a tiny screw to draw it together:
Will let it cure overnight and then insert the big screw.

Interesting you’ve got two - that would be really useful making use of the lost space below.

No idea if you can buy the frames or if they were made by albin - mines also cracked in the same place.

Yeah, 2X2 is good:)
Pulled everything out today so as to see what space there is for a new holding tank and new plumbing, etc.
We concluded an 18 gallon tank may fit in there and will be ordered and installed sometimes in the near future.

Got reminded of the crack in the plastic today.
(I am sure my dentist could repair it by drilling a tiny hole and inserting a tiny screw to pull it together while the epoxy is drying. Will ask her, but probably can’t afford the operation. )

Dag, do you think those drawer units are original to your boat? Do they match the one under the passenger seat? You've really got me thinking about adding another drawer unit in that wasted space or maybe just a big cabinet\oversized glove box with a hinged door.

Yeas and yes.
All original and they match the other drawers, no doubt.

Cleaned the boat and pulled out the paper work getting ready for my annual US Coast Guard Inspection:

Shut down my charter operation for the virus, but good to keep the boat ready and clean for any charter, or any inspection.

New mini-project,
Remote control for the cabin mounted Fusion stereo:
Will probably mount the remote on top of the dash, but need a spacer to give it an angle towards the helmsman and away from the salt spray.
Found this little piece of starboard at a marine store today (Sailorman)
(No charge for a small piece  )
Will shape it like a wedge, round the corners and spray paint it plain vanilla like the interior and exterior.
(What primer to use on starboard? Doubt paint sticks good to it)

This little Remote Stereo control took a bit more time than planned.
I tried to cut the starbord puck, but it flew at 110 mph and got damaged beyond repair using the table saw.
Teak next, got the right shape, but the spray paint was not a good match for top of the dash. Try brushing instead, better color match, but not as smooth.

Should thin the paint, but not even Google can tell me what to use for water based paint. (Water right?)
Or mineral spirits, wait, is it alkyd paint? Not sure. No straight answer, they all come back to spraying the paint, not spraying, brushing.
Not patient enough to spend hours trying to find out.
It should say on the paint can in big letters, but no cigar.

Finally got the little stereo remote mounted.
Color match on the spacer ok, not perfect.

Right at the tail end of a big project: Replacing the entire sanitary system, holding tank, head, valves, hoses, hose clamps etc.
Going for an electric head with fresh and saltwater options.
Budget is $6k.
Hired an expert, he should be done today.
Tank and plumbing is complete:

( trying to add photos to this post, but keep getting a error message: HTTP error, whatever that means. Will try another photo’

Ok, this photo works, re-bedded 6 thru hull fittings, replaced 4.

Photos of tank and plumbing got the HTTP error, had that numerous times this month. What is going on...?

Reference on above re-built steering cylinder:
This message should speak for itself:

Hi from Odin Charters in Fort Lauderdale.
You guys serviced my steering cylinder January this year, then it came back and was still leaking.
I returned it for a second rebuild, and now 11.3 hours later, I found it leaking again today.
I understand you have a 2 year warranty, but I can not keep removing/installing it and sending it back and forth across Florida.
I am running a charter business and I need my stuff to work beyond a few days.
I have no choice but to buy a brand new cylinder and request my money back, and you can have my old cylinder for another re-build and sell on eBay, whatever.

I am puzzled why this rebuilt cylinder are causing problems: I am using the exact fluid you guys recommended, and my boat don’t have power steering, no excess forces on the steering system. Also, I only run inland on rivers and lakes at low power, no salt, no abuse, no nothing.

Let me know how you want to handle this, but I am not going for a third re-build at your shop.

Thanks

Dag Hanssen
