OLD MEMBER RETURNING

Post by whwells »

Will be returning with a 2006 28te Flush Deck Number 890. It comes with a 3 Axle trailer ideal for this stage of my life.
It has an interesting history having been ordered through Bellingham Yachts in Wa. the then Albin West Coast Dealer and moved up to Alaska to be used a 3 or 4 times a year for an Idaho business owner who took up friends to fish. It was always returned to the Pacific Trailer and stored inside all winter. The interior was never slept and even had plastic
still on some the 1/4 bed. Has a total of 699 hours with the Yanmar 315 and nicely equipped with the Wallas diesel stove and heater.
Will take possession in Brookings, Or. on Sept 15, 2020. Should make fine fisher boat and occasional overnighter there at
Brookings Harbor.
Everything appears really ship shape. One exception the carpet in the cabin was stored and not located when moved back down. I recall there was someone making or cutting teak floors for the 28te years back. Anyone know who does or might do that. If not I will need a pattern to replace the carpet below.
In event I look forward to returning to this fine group and will post a picture or two one it arrives.

Will be returning with a 2006 28th Flush Deck 980. It comes with a Pacific Three axle trailer ideal for this stage of my life.
It has an intersting history having been ordered through Bellingham Yachts the then west coast dealer for Albin. The owner from Idaho had it shipped to Alaska where it was used soley for fishing 3 or 4 times per year for his business.
and then returned to the trailer and inside storage all winter. The boat has 699 hours and is equipped with the Yanmar 315.
The interior was never slept in with plastic still on some of the cushions. The dealer nicely equipped it with an inverter and
the Wallas diesel heat and stove and Raymarine electronics.
I will take possession in Brookings, Oregon on Sept 15, 2020. The interior was stored and it appears the carpet below was not located. Seems like years ago there was someone cutting for fit teak floor for the 28te. Anyone recall who that might have been. In the alternative I will need to get a pattern to make up carpet for the lower area.
Looking forward to returning to this fine group and will post some pictures after arrival. Likely this late in the season
it will go directly to storage.

Thank you all for the welcome back comments. Did not intend to post my return twice. I was proofing the first and some how got boat on line.
The 35te was always the perfect Ablin but this is towable and I have located inside winter storage which will be really good for the boat.

Howard, I have followed your travails looking for a new boat to replace the one you never should have sold for years.

So glad you finally found the replacement! Can't wait to hear of your new adventures with it.

Harold, a belated congratulations on finding a great 28TE with a great trailer. We bought our '96 28TE in 2017, from a SF Bay Area owner. After running the boat north to Noyo Harbor where we live, it was evident that lack of local marine services here created need for a trailer for vessel maintenance. In late 2019 we purchased a Loadmaster triple axle trailer made for the 28TE, from an owner of a newer 28TE in Maine. We had to have the trailer shipped across the country, and we had to modify the bunks due to some differences in through-hull placement between our '96 boat and the newer Maine boat, but the trailer works fine now.

Aside from maintenance purposes, the trailer also opens up the possibilities of trailering the boat from Noyo Harbor to other west coast places such as Puget Sound. The trailer is a beast and has 6 electric over hydraulic disk brakes and 18,000 lb capacity. Our 3/4 ton diesel Chevy toes it ok and within specs, but the height of the boat on the trailer is 13 ft 10 inches, so we need to plan the route on local streets when we bring the boat home for maintenance. If we were to tow the boat out of town, I would want to temporarily remove the radar dome, which would add about a foot of vertical clearance. I have a Commercial driver's license to drive school buses 40 ft long and 30,000 lb. For towing the 28TE, the combined length of truck/trailer/boat is about 55 ft and combined weight about 21,000 lb. Don't think I would want to go beyond that. I am saying all this because I wonder about adventures of other 28TE owners with trailers.
