Insurance

Post by Jeremyvmd »

Who are you guys using for insurance? BoatUS as of last Monday stopped insuring boats older than 30 years old. Which is super irritating.

BoatUS renewed the Agreed Hull Value on Mazboot (1984 FC) until 6/21. I upgraded to AHV late last year with no comments on her somewhat advanced age. I did, however, have to get a SAMS survey.
I’ll be interested to see what other AOGers have to say about this.

I know it’s over a certain size for the age of the boat

We're insured with Travelers under an all-risk yacht policy with agreed hull value. Depreciation is based on condition at time of loss, not a predetermined percentage. They were excellent when we had what turned into an enormous lightning claim in 2019. Total depreciation was negligible. 14YO electronics were covered at replacement cost. We're very satisfied.

We have Charter Lakes for our 2001 28TE, not cheap @ $2,100 a year, but that includes 24 revenue charters and a $1.0 mill liability.
Knock off about $400 for strictly recreational at around $1,700 annually for an $79,500 agreed value.

Charter Lakes here. 835 a year covers agreed hull value of $85,000 and a $2000 deductible with 500k in liability. I do get a discount because of my Capt license

Aye, you are getting a better deal as you are not year around in the hurricane belt, Bahamas included?

Contacted charter lakes. Quotes are 3500 or 4200 depending on options. So roughly the same as BoatUS was offering. Thank you guys for the advice. If this one works out that’s the direction I’m gonna go!

That is scary news. I just renewed with them in October for my 1978 36. I could see requiring a survey. Whet type of boat are you looking to insure?

Well a 1946 85' Viking ... no wonder it's hard to insure!

No kidding, we had a 1984 46 viking with 892’s from 2001 until 2014. I know that boat inside and out. If you need any insight or help hit me up.

I’m sure that’s it. And I have a clause saying I’m in dry storage from Thanksgiving until April 15 so I’m sure that makes a difference
