Peninsular Engine Coolant Expansion Tank

I have a 1996 28TE with a 2014 Peninsular-GM 6.5 liter engine. It has a white plastic coolant expansion tank which seems odd. The tank is held in place, somewhat loosely, by surrounding engine components. There is a small hole in the expansion tank cap, apparently to relieve air pressure.

Does any other Peninsular owner have this overflow tank setup? The Peninsular parts manual for this engine does not show any expansion tank. There is a metal pressurized overflow tank part, but for a different version of this motor, where the heat exchanger is mounted lower.

So did your heat exchanger overflow to the bilge when motor warm? Or did you leave a couple inches of air in the exchanger to allow for expansion?

Neither. I left it full and it didn’t overflow. At least big significantly. Not like to the top of the thing but maybe an inch below the neck.
