Albin 28 2000 cockpit bolsters

Post by briliz197 »

Hi.....I am a fairly new member and I own the above boat.
My bolsters are looking a bit shabby and I would like to freshen them up.
I know that leather and plastic sofas are painted.
Anyone had experience in this area, please contact me.

I use neat janitol Rapide on mine. It’s a pretty harsh but if used wisely effective alkaline cleaner. It’s designed for cleaning hard floors really when diluted. I simply spray it on - leave for a few minutes and wash off. No scrubbing and comes up like new. I found it by accident after using it to clean the dirt out of my flexiteek floor. Where I’m berthed it’s right next to a ferry port so we get a lot of soot settling from the exhausts on the deck - and after a few months it nearly impossible to remove because it gets grained into the fabric and tread. I’ve also found it’s amazing for cleaning up starboard. Not sure if it’s available stateside but it’s my go to twice a year deep clean. So far after seven years use I’ve never seen it cause any long term issues.

I cleaned mine each spring but finally got a seamstress to take the cushions and frame (aluminum stays) and create new ones. I suggested flag blue Sunbrella to match our engine box cover cushion. She urged me to use the same vinyl type material in the original light gray. Great idea. Dark blue gets hot in the sun. The interior stuffing should be a type that doesn't soak up water like a sponge. I was very happy with the result. Unfortunately, she is no longer available. By the way, I would number the cushions, even though there are only three, to make sure you put them back the same way. The corners are just so.

Having read Tree’s reply and having the same issue as Brian, I looked immediately to buy Janitol Rapide. The only place I could “reliably” find that carries it is ScrewFix - and they have no stock and won’t ship anyway.......
Anyone know where to access Janitol Rapide in the US for delivery or SWFL for pick up?

I installed custom SeaDek bolsters.
All 3 of them came to about $650 with shipping.

If you feel like you have nothing to lose by experimenting with cleaners on your bolsters and engine hatch cushion, try Softscrub and/or Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

That is on my list for this winter - how do you like them? What color did you choose?

Thanks,

I actually bought mind from MSC Direct here in the UK, MSC is an American company so that may yield some results?

Forgot the name of the color combo, Off-white and Sand maybe, see picture. Yes, I like them, but I don’t fish, strictly for a finished look and occasionally leaning against.
