Trailer carpet covering
What is the best (most slippery) carpet covering for trailer bunks and supports?

Re: Trailer carpet covering
I use the best grade of deck/porch carpet at one of the big box builders stores because I want maximum service life. I've used salvaged indoor carpet (premium grade) and the outdoor stuff is WAY better.

Re: Trailer carpet covering
"Glyde Slicks" by Taco is one product designed for bunks, if slipperiness is your goal.

Re: Trailer carpet covering
Ditto to Nick's post. But slipperiness is not all that much of an issue. By the time the trailer is backed in far enough to float the boat only a small portion of bunks are still in contact with the hull.

Re: Trailer carpet covering
I'm working on setting up our trailer now, and I'm not going to use carpet on our bunks at all. The treated 2x6's will be capped instead with 3/8" PVC sheeting. Full 4x8 panels of that material are available at Lowes for $80/sheet. We'll rip it into 5-1/2" strips and screw it on with (counter-sunk) SS screws.
That plastic is pretty soft anyway, and I'll bullnose the edges too -- I think it will make a nice durable, no-mar surface for the hull to sit on.

Tom, I'm very interested in how that works out for you and your bottom paint. Please keep us posted!

Tom,
Sorry we couldn't make it out this year. Was looking forward to the trip but COVID had other ideas.
