Muffler Information

Post by Jkraft »

Hi all, does anyone know what muffler was used in the 28 circa 2002? Was this a manufactured item or was it custom by Albin? Also, has anyone ever removed one? Is it do-able without cutting into the deck?

Thank you,

I know that both my 2002 - 28TE and my 2006 - 31TE both with Cummins power have Centek Vernatone mufflers.

On the 28,, I believe that in one way or another surgery will need to be performed if not removing a piece of the deck or then removing the cockpit deck panel and then the fuel tank, but you might get lucky in removing it through the cockpit side hatch.

What's going on?

Thanks Kevin! When I bought the boat I had seen some black drips coming from the muffler. They were also present when I re launched this spring. It seems to be dripping more than before so I’m just preparing myself for it’s repair or replacement. It does not leak at rest with the motor off and it’s pretty minor but it’s enough to be making a mess under my port side deck box.

Is the leak maybe coming from the small self tapping drain screw? You'll find it in the lower rear of the muffler.

I didn’t even know that existed! I’ll look there. It appears that it’s coming from the forward side of the muffler (toward the bow) but I’ll check! Thank you for the help!
