28TE Main Fuel Tank Gauge Replace

Post by samkopper »

The capacity sensor sending unit is broken. It has a gage at its top. Shows full there and at instrument panel regardless of actual level. Need advice on : (a) accessing it, which appears to require removing stern floor because from engine hatch one can't get at phillips screws and even if you could, the unit couldn't be removed via that path; and (b) where to find a replacement.

Sam - I assume this is a motorbox 28TE with the tank just behind the engine. Although large, the aft cockpit panel is a breeze to get out. Just cut around the sealant, undo the big Phillips screws and lift it out. Full access to the top of the tank and everything back there.

There are many aftermarket tank gauge/sender options available. The factory installed an inexpensive Teeflex gauge in mine.

THANK you! Yes, that's the setup and I sorta assumed what you've suggested. Just wanted to be sure before I go at it. "HI" to VA, my home state...errr, I mean Commonwealth. My mom's family, the Lees are somewhat known around your region...not to mention nationwide these days. Richard Henry Lee is my 4-greats grandpa. Best, Sam

We’re related Sam. Robert E is my 5th cousin. Good luck with your tank gauge project

Yes it is a breeze. Cut and unscrew.
The unit I used (non-motor box) was a centriod unit sold by a Florida company.
