Yanmar 6LPA-STC vs 6LPA STP difference?

Post by SWW »

Hello everyone,

I'm looking at purchasing an Albin that has a completely replaced, low hour Yanmar 6LPA-STC engine in it. The engine date is Aug 2013. I was wondering if someone could tell me the difference between STP and STC? Most Albins seem to have the STP engine.

When I "Google" the STC model, very little info comes up. Would I be buying a "one off" engine or because its under the 6LPA model, is the STC just slightly different?

Because its a "newer" engine then what's in the 2006 28' Albin's does this mean that the 2013 is computerized and has wires for throttles vs mechanical and cables? I'm thinking mechanical, but mostly wondering if there is a computer that you could possible scan the engine?

Where do I look for recalls? When I go the Yanmar site, I can't seem to find it. When I go to upload the operation manual, its for 6LPA-STP2 and 6LPA-STZP2 models. Again, I don't know the difference in STP2 or STZP2

Any info would be greatly appreciated or if anyone could recommend a strictly diesel engine website where I might be able to research this further, that would be wonderful!

Thank you in advance

The only difference between the two is the engine rating for EPA. The “C” is for a more continues usage and is considered an LDC (Light Duty Commercial – revenue generating vessel) Engine. The LDC (“C”) rated engine can be used in both a recreational as well light duty application boat application, but the standard STP/2 engine is strictly a recreational engine and can only be used as such due to EPA guidelines. So many of our Distributors stock the “C” engine to use in both applications for new and replacements, thus being able to help a vast array of customers with this engine.

As mentioned above, the 6LPA-STC is identical to the STP/2 engines and parts are and will be available for a long time as the engine was and is very popular.

The 6LP series engine is strictly an analog engine and there is nothing offered from Yanmar to convert the analog signal to a semi-digital signal. There are no recalls for this engine.

Wow, lots of good info.
The only tidbit I know is that the 6LP is made in Japan and the 6LPA is made in the US (A for America)
