2008 Albin TE 28 Courtesy lights
I want to convert my lighting to LED. I am not sure how to get the bulbs out, and what type of bulb is in the courtesy light fixture.

Re: 2008 Albin TE 28 Courtesy lights
On our '95, the trim ring has to be removed (2 screws) in order to remove the lens and get to the bulb. I used these as replacements.

No screws just a plastic ring

Re: 2008 Albin TE 28 Courtesy lights
That's completely different from what I have. Your photo is pretty fuzzy, but I wonder if the plastic ring pops off. I'd start by checking the courtesy lights on the Defender and West Marine websites. You may be able to figure out if your incandescent or halogen fixture is a predecessor to what's there.

Re: 2008 Albin TE 28 Courtesy lights
You have the same ones that I had and I’m pretty sure they are led. That plastic ring pops off with a straight edge which exposes the screws. I replaced mine all together with the 4 color LEDs. They will go red blue green and white. They start red every time and every time you turn the switch off and back on it changes color. They were purchased from marinebeam.com skew # FX-57-WBRGtperricone wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2020 6:25 pm No screws just a plastic ring

Re: 2008 Albin TE 28 Courtesy lights
I am also looking to convert my 2001 courtesy lights to LED, but they may already be old style LED:
Pulled a rim and removed 3 screws:
On the back it says Hella, New Zealand, 12 volts, 0.7 Watts.
The new LEDs I am looking at says 0.5 Watts.
Close enough.
Don’t need bright red, blue, green whatever, just dim cozy courtesy lights. Perhaps this is what I already have, but some of my lights are looking a bit tired with signs of corrosion behind the scenes.

Did the screw holes match?

Ouch, different original lights then.On our '95, the trim ring has to be removed (2 screws) in order to remove the lens and get to the bulb. I used these as replacements.
Hate to drill new holes.
Looking for the same hole pattern..
Looked closer today, only 3 courtesy lights, 2 inside and 1 outside.
Am I missing a few hidden lights under the coamings..?

Probably. They're close to the transom. Wander out there in an hour and turn on the light switch. Nothing? Maybe yours don't work or don't exist.

Re: 2008 Albin TE 28 Courtesy lights
Aye Nancy, I did wander out there after dark and I did turn on the courtesy light switch:
Yeas, 2 lights under the aft coamings for a total of 3 outside and 2 inside.
(Been a long time since I used them courtesy lights: We use a removable LED anchor light for hanging out after dark) https://www.anchorexpress.com/Davis-Meg ... gIROfD_BwE)
All 5 courtesy lights work good, don’t need replacements right now, but I noticed corrosion yesterday as well as dim performance and old/stiff wires.
Running out of projects, maybe I should install these Red/Blue/Green/White lights...
Did the screw holes line up with the old installation?
(Hate drilling new holes in my boat. )

Dag, I didn't replace the fixtures, just the bulbs. And I know what you mean about drilling holes in the boat. Really hate that, especially below the water line.

Hey Dag, I know it does not solve the issue of drilling holes but I was thinking about what you said about liking the warm cozy look versus the bring light. I see marine beam does have one with a chrome top that is meant for more of a soft curtesy light that could work for the cabin. I think I may switch mine out myself because I also like the softer cozy look. Here it is.

Did you change out the courtesy lights yet?Jkraft wrote: ↑Fri May 15, 2020 10:01 am Hey Dag, I know it does not solve the issue of drilling holes but I was thinking about what you said about liking the warm cozy look versus the bring light. I have been holding off. Kind of tempted to go for the 4-color version, but they may be too bright.
The warm 1-color light only got a 3 star review, may have to dig a bit deeper.
