4D61 starter

Post by motthediesel »

Well, I finally managed to buy a new (rebuilt) starter for our Peugeot engine. I found it by searching for the Paris Rhone part number on Google. I ordered it from "buycarparts.co.uk" though when I received it, it was drop-shipped from a supplier in Berlin.

It's interesting that this starter is not the same one that was used in the Peugeot sedans, but was mostly used in the Citroen vans. Here's a picture of it, as received.

And here's the invoice in case anybody wants to know the bad news. Too bad about the shipping -- more than the item price -- and the "pledge" is what we would call the core charge. Still, quite a bit cheaper than the price from the European marine suppliers I've found.

I've bolted it in, and it fit perfectly, but it will be a while before I get to try it out.

$250 USD, not bad at all.
Did you get dinged for any customs fees?

Nope, that was the whole cost all in — delivered to my door by the USPS.”

With our postal service here, I have found that if I use a business name I get sales tax and broker fees to pay, but with a personal name I do not. UPS is always the big rip-off for spurious broker fees (they are their own broker but pretend it is a 3rd party) and FedEx charge a reasonable fee, but usually forget to bill me.

That sounds like a great price. I have paid more for a GM starter.

Tom - you may have stumbled on gold (or at least silver). Thanks for the heads up.
