Re: Overpowering question
I don't know how recently, but they made or make them down to 10hp

This looks promising. I believe that it is the same K4D SABB Mitsubishi unit I mention above with HVP controllable pitch propeller:

More specifically this document:

So, I think you can buy them new! How much?

Re: Overpowering question
So that is why the Hubble had problems!

Re: Overpowering question
Worked on it? Why, it was my idea to use duct tape to fix it!

Actually, the Hubble fixes and its subsequent performance were amazing. Red Green says if you can't be good looking, at least be handy. Something like that.

Re: Overpowering question
I didn't mean that duct tape fixed it, just that that was my idea. It was one of the other guys that had the bright idea of the Walmart readers.
You started this.

Re: Overpowering question
Sorry for the late response here, I did not do any precise calculations last summer other than rough range calculations and I came up with around 3/4 gallon an hour and maybe minutely less? I will do a better fuel/time at cruise calculation this summer, maybe including separation for idle times etc, we were fishing or setting traps last year with the engine running at idle often.Bob Noodat wrote: ↑Sat Mar 21, 2020 7:19 pm Thank you dkirsop. So the red lines join hull speed of roughly 6 knots to rpm of roughly 1800?
ssrig.... what is your typical fuel consumption with that 55hp? Have you found an absolutely optimum fuel consumption and an absolutely, well let's coin a new word, pessimum fuel consumption?
It would be interesting to find the range of consumption for the two hull types with different horsepower levels. Of course there are people who like economy and others who like speed. Why a person who likes speed would buy an A25 though I don't know. As the ex-owner of a Citroën Dyane with a 602cc two cylinder boxer engine and about 55mpg, I would be firmly in the frugal court.

Re: Overpowering question
Thanks ssrig.
So that does sound a mite high compared to all the reports of about ½ gallon/hour with the stock engines. The advantage no doubt being a lot of oomph to get you out of a nasty situation for an arguably small cost.
