Getting ready for the big launch

Post by dgetswet »

By chance would anyone have a check list handy for getting the boat ready for a spring launch. I had a great one last year and can't seem to find it.
Nothing better than a good check list before setting sail.

Thanks
Thanks

I'm not sure how this compares to your old list, but this outlines our approach for critical (mostly) items. Hull waxing and bottom painting and all that jazz is probably pretty well known:

Commissioning Checklist:

Running Gear and Rudder(s)
Pre-launch:
  • Verify zincs in good order
Verify prop nuts and cotter pin(s) properly set
Thru-hulls
Pre-launch:
  • Disassemble, clean, grease, reassemble all thru-hulls - ensure operational
Launch:
  • Inspect to ensure all thru-hulls and hoses are leak-free
Inspect all transducers and verify leak-free
Electrical
Pre-launch:
  • Test bilge pump(s)
Ensure all batteries are fully watered (if applicable) and properly wired - connections tight and properly fused, cables routed such that they aren’t chafing.
    Ensure batteries are properly secured
Ensure all batteries are fully charged
Launch:
  • Ensure bilge pump(s) functioning properly
Ensure all systems charging and functioning as they should once engines are running and the boat is plugged into shore power - battery charger, alternator, refrigerator, etc.
Engine(s) and Drivetrain
Pre-launch:
  • Inspect/Replace raw water pump impeller(s)
Verify raw water seacocks open (and functional)
    Verify crankcase oil level
    Verify injection pump oil level
    Verify coolant level
    Verify transmission fluid level
Launch:
  • Inspect stuffing box(es) and hose(es) for unusual leaks
Inspect cutlass/shaft log injection port and hose for leaks
Verify no leaks from seacocks or raw water pump
Verify good exhaust water flow at startup
Verify all fluid levels once again after shutdown (If time for fuel filter or oil change, perform now)
Heads, Washdown, and Freshwater Systems
Launch:
  • De-winterize, fill, and rinse water tanks

CDSailor

Thanks for the info. Reading over it sounds almost the same. I think you may have an item or two extra which never hurts. I normally put it in a word doc and fill it in as I go along. Then save it in the maintenance folder. For some reason it did not make it to the computer.

Thanks again safe sailing
