Hi,
I am a new member to the forum. I'm interested in the Albin 27 family cruiser. I'm primarily looking for an economical cruiser for the Trent-Severn and Erie canals somewhat local to our home area of Niagara. My wife and I currently have a Doral 250 cruiser that we use on the lower Niagara river and Lake Ontario.
I'm intrigued by the Albin 27 and look forward to learning more about them here.

Welcome Mark, I've had mine for a little over 6 yrs now and love it more each day. I was out puttering around yesterday for about 4 hours and only saw one other boat on the water. There's a lot of knowledge on here if you take the time to read it. It takes patience to find the right one. I drove over 6000 miles looking and finally found her in New Hampshire. Good luck! Ben

Welcome aboard. We are considering & hope to trailer our own A25 out to Brewerton, NY to launch at the west end of Lake Oneida this coming summer and do the "triangle" loop as shown in this map sketch.

You shouldn't have too much trouble locating an A27, and this time of year is a good time to shop around and find a "pre-season" deal, since it's still pretty cold in the NE. Here's an example of a late model 1988 Yachtworld listing in Groton, CT. No trailer, although if you didn't plan on regular trailering I suppose you could have it transported. Actually this one looks pretty nice for the price. Basic layout is similar to the A25, except bigger of course. Center cockpit/wheelhouse with bench driver seat & sailboat style side bench seats. Fairly conventional standing headroom forward cabin with dinette to starboard (convertible to double berth), head compartment in aft starboard corner with toilet, vanity sink & shower, galley in aft port corner. Sitting headroom aft cabin with twin quarter berths.

Thanks for the welcome and info guys.
I noticed both of those boats for sale. The one in Groton has a sale pending, the other one doesn't have much info listed. I'll have to reach out to them and get some details.
Unfortunately Its "early days" for me with the Albin search. Interestingly, on the great lakes there don't seem to be many Albins so my only experience with them is online only. I'm hoping to do some road trips in the near future to get the "up close and personal" experience.
What are the area's of a used 27 that are the most critical to watch for? My understanding is that they have cored bottoms so delamination would be a critical component to watch for. What about rotten stringers, etc?? preferred engine type?, etc (Not many diesels in my area - mostly Mercruiser/VP gas) Sorry for the long post.

No mention of the A27 marque would be complete without mention of http://motorcityboatwerks.weebly.com/albin-27fc.html

He has posted tons here as well.

(A happy A25 owner...well mostly happy, and not all to do with the boat.)
