A27 engine covers

Post by Randall »

Anyone have a creative idea to hold starboard engine compartment door open. As you can see, the method I currently use can be dangerous if I absentminded lift the glove box door and a body part is in the way of falling hatch door. Thanks , Randall

Mazboot's engine room cover is a very solid wooden hatch installed by a PO, it opens up aft to for'd and is well insulated (I'll post a pic or two next time I go to her winter accommodations). It's kind of a pain to prop open but is very sound and allows for plenty of work space. I soon learned to tie it back to new cleat, (nothing like a hatch dropping on TEVA-ed feet to wake you up). If I really need space to work I take the whole thing off and prop it against the aft cabin doorway.

I have a bungee cord ..it stays on the Star. wall and hooks nicely to the lid (and safely..never had a failure..even in heavy seas.

Another vote for the all-purpose bungee! I actually double mine from the pedestal footrest. I don't like failure either, especially when it hurts! Ben

Now I know why a loose bungee cord was hanging on the steering wheel when we picked Meridian up. Answers are sometimes no further than the tip of your nose. Thanks for the reminder guys. Randall

I have a hook-and-eye arrangement from the previous owner. The hook hangs off of the bottom of the helm shroud, and hooks into an eye attached to the starboard engine door. Works pretty well. Will post a pic next time I get to the marina.

I have a folding mast step mounted just to port of the steering column. Just open the hatch and fold the step down so that the hatch rests on the step. Works well.
