Using Inverter as a charger

Post by robienick »

I have a 4D wet cell house battery and an AGM engine battery. I know one should not use different type batterie in the same bank, but by using the battery switches, I can charge both batteries using the inverter. Would there be a problem doing that, and what type of problem if any would it create?

Here is an update to the post above. I have discovered that the engine battery is not an AGM, but a maintenance free lead acid battery. I have the same question, can I charge both a wet cell and a maintenance free battery at the same time w/o damaging the inverter?

I'm not sure how you have this all wired. What is the source of power, for the inverter, if you're trying to charge your two onboard batteries? Are you trying to charge one from the other?

I am also not sure what you mean, Are you using an Inverter to power a battery charger?

I got an inverter/battery charger on the 28TE:
ProSine 2500, installed by dealer when the boat was delivered.
Yes, the inverter will also charge if that is your question..?

Thanks for all your thoughts, problem solved. I have found out how to charge both batteries at the same time using the inverter. it works fine since both are wet cells.
