Considering moving up to the 31

Post by Pedro »

After 5 seasons on the 28 we (my daughter) is starting to outgrow it.
And my wife finally came out on a few multi day cruises.
For those that moved up from a 28, is the aft berth the preferred berth for couples?
How does it “live” better than the 28?
I assume Handling with single is the same as 28.
We need to be able to sleep and cruise with 2 adult and two teens.
I’m hoping it would fit easily my current slip with 35’ max length
Any comments on the jump
Up would be appreciated,,Pete

I just got my 31. I have only walked around a 28. I feel like 4 could be comfortable for short stays. (But u are still “tiny house” living)
Mine fits in a 35’ slip. The 31 seems to fit In a niche that can handle 4+ but still fish alone.

Aft berth is where we sleep. It is has a lot more room then a 28. The head has a separate shower(good for storage). Once you get on a 31 all your questions will be answered. Should have no problem with a 35 ft slip.

We just finished up our 6th season moving up from the 28 to the 31 .. a world of difference in space over three feet in length and two feet in beam. The Aft berth is our berth .. no more having the dinette going up and down and our berth is always ready, but your situation is different. The galley is generous with it's limited appliances of a toaster oven which we often utilize as an oven to bake meals as well as a using it as a toaster , 2 burner cooktop and microwave. The pilot house offers more galley/wetbar space which is where I setup the morning coffee maker, 1 fridge up & 1 fridge down. The head is spacious compared to the 28 and having the separate shower stall is very nice .. as stated the shower stall is also a nice spot for extra storage .. I stow two folded deck chairs bungied across two pad eyes ... very nice.

Get yourself aboard one and you'll see the additional livability and comfort.

I find this thread very interesting as I'm always looking for a nice, west coast 31. I've had my 28' for 15 years now and still love the boat, just want a little more room for those extended weekends on the boat.
