Yellowed plastic on rod holders under gunnels

Post by Jkraft »

As the title says, the plastic on the rod holder inlays under the gunnels is badly yellowed on the new boat I’m picking up. Does anyone know the cause? What is the solution to bring it back or what paint and prep work can be used? Thanks

Are you referring the to the notched rod holders? Two on each side of the boat? Ours are made of King Starboard, and you can clean them with Softscrub (the kind with bleach). According to the manufacturer, they can also be sanded.

Hi Nancy, yes. That’s odd, these seem to be a plastic. I’ll post a couple of photos when I pick the boat up

I replaced mine a couple of years ago. I could likely find the source and part number if you are interested in replacement. Not too expensive.

Not quite sure what you are trying to describe, but guessing that you're referencing the fishing rod grommets/ deck brush, gaff, etc.
If so, they're made by Marine East and available in a couple of different size.
