Bow Thruster

Post by rmtallon@aol.com »

I'm the new owner of a 2001 32 plus 2 Albin Command Bridge. I need to replace the bow thruster motor with a Vetus Bow Thruster Motor BP 812. In trying to find one I have been told that it is not made anymore? Therefore I'm looking for a used BP 812 motor? If anyone has a suggestion please advise? Thank you, in advance. Robin Tallon

Welcome, Robin! Looks like you are having trouble with your bow thruster. I hope you get some help from someone more knowledgeable than I am. Are these motors something that can be rewound or are they considered disposable? I would certainly check.

Hi Robin - do you know exactly what’s wrong with the motor? These are pretty rebuildable (bearings and brushes) unless really burnt up. Brushes for the older models should be available through a Vetus distributor. I’d take it to a local motor shop to see what they think first if you’ve not already done that.

Robin I took my thruster motor to a local old time starter alternator shop he had to machine some of the parts since they were from Denmark but still did a great job for $ 150

Seconded, mine was totally rusted out and a good motor shop here in the county totally redid it for about $200.
