From the "Why didn't Ido this sooner department?" a low cost improvement to the deck drains. Pine and fir needles are forever blocking the two aft drainage holes. I finally got around to lengthening them and now needles pass through easily and water no longer ponds in this location. Used some leftover gelcoat to seal the hole once it was shaped. Hole dimension is 1/2"x1-1/2". Cost - nothing, value - priceless.

The original hole is 1/2" diameter so I drilled two more at 1/2" centers. Then used a coping saw and file to clean up the sides. I used a 1/8" pilot bore prior to drilling the larger holes. I clamped a small block of hardwood under the flange to prevent chipping and gouging prior to drilling from the top.

Half-inch paint and an inattentive painter could fairly easily seal the original drains shut. The WillieC has one in each stern corner and one on each side about midship. And it is always the pine needles I have to poke out, or when on the mooring ball, seagull shell excreta, et cetera.

That’s interesting. I looked mine over and didn’t see any, only drains I see are the holes left behind from the stanchions that have been removed, and a couple larger ones it looks like somebody drilled for drainage. I guess I need to look closer or maybe I have a odd boat that just doesn’t have them?
