Looking for a Peninsular mechanic in the Annapolis area

Post by L8apexer »

Hi All,

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in the Annapolis area that knows the 6.5 peninsular motor. Just picked up my Albin 28TE and ran into some fuel delivery issues deep into the first leg of my trip. First leg was from Woodbridge to Solomon’s and she ran like a champ for 6.5 hours. She started throwing out sooty smoke and I shut her down. We got towed in, changed the oil (which was clearly high from diesel being dumped in. The mechanics at Solomon’s looked at it and weren’t able to find the issue. I took her for a spin after that and she was operating normally. Left Solomon’s she drove great with all readings normal until she did the same thing 2.5 hours up the bay. I noticed dark exhaust, shut her down and we were towed back. I think this points to an injector issue but if anyone has experienced this, I would appreciate the input.

I just want to get her back out into the bay :-)

Talk to Sean at Bay Shore marine. Not positive they do Peninsular but are good mechanics. A bit pricey but always on schedule. Sounds like maybe the turbo could be locking up? Good luck!

Thanks Carl, I talked to them and they said that they would rather not work on an engine of that vintage. Ferry Point also told me to pound sand. Any other suggestions are welcome. I do have someone that can come out in the 12th but I was hoping to atleast have someone look at it before then.

There are two local members that may be able to help. Try to PM “Mike” , and also John Collins, they both have the same “vintage” motors.

I know he “Hates Peninsular” engines but
When I bought my Albin in Annapolis
I used Jeff at Bert Jabins Yard he was a very competent engine surveyor,,
Is it Bayside or Bayshore?
