Pedestal for dinette table

Post by Cape Codder »

Well it finally happened.
The pedestal of my dinette table is stuck, really stuck in the down position.
Great for V-berth....not so hot for sitting at the table.
After many applications of penetrates......no go.
Even a little persuasion with a rubber hammer....still...no go.

So I removed and jumped online to find Taco Metals (Taco Marine)
I called Taco in FL. 1-800-653-8567
Very good customer service!
They asked me to call Gene Bray (Taco warranty service) in Starta, TN at 931-738-8300
After discussing w/Gene and explaining the pedestal was 7 years old, he gave me a Return Authorization #, and I sent UPS today for delivery on Thursday.
He said they would repair or replace.........no costs known until he sees it.
Gene expected 72 hour turn-around-time.
I would really like a NEW one.....if cost is reasonable (< $100)
That is is model #Z80-2603 - VEL

Here is the outcome:
Pedestal cannot be repaired.
Taco put me in touch with Pier Supply, Smithville, TN that has the table pedestal in stock.
Cost: $170 plus $15 shipping.
I spoke with Jan, phone # 931-303-5277

When I checked with C. E. Beckman of New Bedford, MA, the price was $250, and not in stock.

After fighting mine for a season, I shoved it down, removed all the cushions and had a custom Winndom mattress made for the vee. Love it. Don't miss fighting the table and having to make up the bed each night....I was too big to sit comfortably anyhow. So it was a good option for us.

OK.
Nothin' is easy...
Model #Z80-2603 - VEL is the right size (length) pedestal...
However, it did not fit into the receptacle underneath the table.
That receptacle has a hard plastic/rubber lining and needed to be ground out about 1/4 inch.
I used a course sanding drum on the end of my drill and sanded away...
Finally I got it to fit into the receptacle about 1.5 inches, and used an epoxy to make sure it held.

Done !!! Works like new.......
What a pain....

I am having the same issue with my pedestal on my 28TE. Stuck in the down position for the sleeping berth option. I have removed it and am pounding the you know what out of it to try and remove what appears to be 2 pcs that nest between a nylon liner. I hate to have to spend $200 on a new one and maybe have the same issue down the road. Will these two pieces eventually separate?

I replaced mine with a Springfield air-powered 3-stage pedestal in black. Purchased from iboats in 2018. I've attached a picture of it installed. The base was a little larger in diameter than the old one. It works well as I use it each week to convert the front seating to a bed.

Springfield 1660230-blk for black or 1660230 for silver. Iboats part is IB00458595 for black or IB00458594 for silver. Currently the silver is lower in price than the black. The black one was cheaper when I ordered March 2018.

I took mine apart. It needed an new gas spring. Ordered new one from Suspa Inc. who made it for $30 + S&H, part number C16-17375. However, the former owner lost the lower rubber insert. If you have replaced yours do you have the lower rubber insert that keeps the center pole from wobbling?

Thank you

Removing the base is simple. Don't let that stop you.

I have a ZWAARDVIS table base.
When I lifted the inner column out there was a steel rod that fell to the side.
I cannot remove it nor can I find a way to reattach the inner rod....HELP....cheers
