Transmission noise 32+2 Cummins ZF Gear

Post by TomA »

Extremely loud squealing noise at 2100 RPM, gets louder as you increase RPM. No noise and all is A-OK at 2000 RPM. ZF gear manual says could be dirty filter? Has anyone experienced this, and your remedy? Thank you TomA

Are you 100% sure it's the tranny? What engine, 6BTA or ?? Check hoses and clamps for any air (boost) leaks from the turbo to the aftercooler and to the intake manifold. Would make sense with it happening at that rpm and north of it as that is where you are making boost. And it would not happen in neutral at the dock as there would be no boost generated.

If you would like a second set of eyes/ears send me a note. We are just across the river and I should have some free time later this week:)

FYI 6BTA5 370 HP. Problem was found to be the "Air Crossover Tube" from turbo to inlet to the after cooler was cracked. Ordered Cummins replacement yesterday. Thanks for all of you input. Tom A

Does that count for another score for RobS? I, for one, am glad he has not abandoned us in his new life!

Come on it's not like I sold my 28 and bought a camper! Besides, John threatened to hack my computers if I didn't stop in and help out from time to time :D . All is good...Thanks Willie!
