Does anyone know the weight of the Volvo MD3B ( I think 640 pounds W/O gear)?
I'm repowering to Yanmar 3JH4E (380~ pounds w/o gear).
I would like to factor engine weight difference into longitudinal trim while installing other boat systems. IE batteries, Tankage Etc.
Thanks

I read on the engine spec sheet year 1974 :640lbs.with red.reverse gear included.
This sheet was from boat diesel. Bob

Agree, maybe 650 if you consider the accumulated external residue.

Re: Volvo MD3B weight in A25 - Repower to Lighter Yanmar
Have you decided whether or not to go with the AquaDrive yet? I doubt the weight difference would affect longitudinal trim all that much since the engine is fairly centrally located. Might affect the waterline level a bit in a positive manner if anything. If it were mounted way aft like most boats then it probably would make a difference. Spec weight of a 3JH4E, depending on which transmission it has, ranges from 408 lbs to 467 lbs including transmission. So your weight savings compared to the MD3B is +/- 240 lbs. The dry weight of our smaller 24 HP 3GM30F with the tranny we have is 308 lbs, not counting the weight of the AquaDrive set.

I concur with the 640# weight of the Volvo package.
Here's a snippet from one of my posts regarding repower to a lighter (and in my case, smaller) power plant:
"The original Volvo 36 hp weighed a whopping 640 lbs with gear. This Vetus is a Mitsubishi-based engine and weighs only 270 lbs, with gear! Even though it is 11 hp less, it is a full 369 lbs lighter!"
A 369 lb weight difference is nothing to sneeze at. Might even make up for my missing 11 horses.
I have a $1k credit with a Yanmar dealer (don't ask!). Maybe I should have spent it towards a Yanmar repower for my A25 de Luxe, but I think it would have broken the bank on my budget.
