Battery switching

I have a 4D and a 27 battery. The 4D is starting and the 27 house, What is the recommended position of the battery switch. I start and run on both batteries. Should I start on starting and then switch to 27 while running? Should I start on both and then switch to house? When at anchor switch to 27 only? Just curious.

We have one engine battery and two house batteries. When at the dock, where the battery charger is plugged in, we start on both (all). We run on both.

While at anchor, we switch to house only. When ready to weigh anchor, I typically start on the engine battery , run the windlass, and then switch to both. Our thought process is that if starting on the engine battery alone fails, we might get lucky with the house batteries or all.
