Painting bow thruster gear housing..?

Post by Norseman »

When I bought the 28TE last year, it looked like the housing was not painted, more like bare bronze, hard to tell as it had some growth on it.
Had a yard soda blast the bottom recently and they cleaned the bow thruster as well.
Then they primed and painted the housing with epoxy and copper based paint and installed the anode.
After 7-8 weeks the anode is gone, only the SS screw remains.
(Found out when I snorkeled in the Keys a few days ago)
Installed a new zinc anode, but now a bit concerned.
Does the bottom paint react with the metal housing, or is something else going on like battery charger not grounded properly?
Prop and rudder zincs ok.
How long does your bow thruster anode last and what if any paint do you use on the gear-housing?
2001 28TE, 6LP-STE, 1,337 hrs, 19X18 four-blade wheel.

I have been using Petit zinc coat barnacle buster. It is a spray paint for bare metal.

How long does your bow thruster anode last? Boat on a lift or in the water?
My boat was on a lift with first owner for 16 years, now in the drink full time at my dock.

The bow thruster anode lasts more than a year but the boat spends half the year in the water and half in the Hinckley service yard while we go North for the summer.

I have an Albin 31Tourament Express and was wondering if anyone knew where to purchase a bow thruster motor.
