Fuel to injectors

Post by Leon Haczynski »

I"m having a problem getting fuel to the injector? I have a 6LP-STE Yanmar engine in an Albin 28TE. I have fuel going to the injector pump but no fuel going from the injector pump to the injectors. Is there a solenoid controlling the fuel leaving the injector pump to the injectors? If not how do I get fuel to the Injectors?

Stop button, or key in stop position: Broken or grounded wire could close the valve?
Had it happen on a trawler with a Westerbeke: Doing a delivery, narrowest and busiest portion of the New River in Fort Lauderdale the single diesel quit. Wind and current slowly moved us over to an empty spot on the sea wall. I trew a dock line to a tourist and said please tie it to the nearest cleat, please, please..
Long story short, when the throttle hit idle it also shorted the kill solenoid.

The stop solenoid is controlled by this relay.

There are two relays on the forward starboard side of the engine. One is the fuel shutoff relay. I had the same issue one morning before heading out on a cruise for whales. I picked up a Bosch universal relay and wired it in because no OEM was available locally. As I remember the solenoid was wired to normally closed contacts and was energised to stop fuel flow. I will check my wiring diagram to confirm. See item #30 on the diagram.

Yes, wish I had a picture of my face when the relay decided to shut off the fuel solenoid when I was running across the bay at wide-open throttle

"Rob is there something that you don't have a picture of?"

I'll second that emotion. Rob is an invaluable font of knowledge on all things boatie, and he has a mind for organizing and retrieving it.

Thanks, again, Rob!

Rob, you made me paranoid. I ordered the relay. I tried to convince the bride I had to go New Zealand to pick it up, but my offer was declined.

The wiring diagram is helpful but I have always wanted a physical location for this relay. Yanmar uses lots of very similar relays often close to each other. Does a relay location drawing exist?

Thanks,

TD

I gave a location in a previous post. The diagram is also the layout it seems like. There are two relays forward starboard side of the engine mounted under on on the end (from memory scary thing) of the cooler.

The various relays are in the area I boxed in red. The fuel solenoid relay in some cases hangs low and is subject to the dribbling water that runs out when the oil cooler end cap zinc is removed. Location is starboard/fwd for engine box, or port/aft for flush deck models.

Rob, we A25ers prefer to trailer the whole boat with the engine, not separately. Ha!

The crazy thing about Rob's engine is that the picture was taken before he cleaned it up.

No, that shot was after I did some engine maintenance work, paint touch-up and mounting of the new tranny. The engine was out because the tranny went on the last few miles of my 100 mile delivery run home. This was done over the winter so it sat in the garage until March/April when all went back together..
