I have only seen a picture of a TE28 with a hardtop helm station made of aluminum pipe with a suntop.
Not one on a 27. My thought would be that in a beam sea the roll of the boat might sling-shot the helmsman across the bay.

Exactly. Even in a moderate chop from any direction it would be most uncomfortable
If you did decide to try it, keep the stock helm station as is - It would see far more use than the upper one
