Stuffing box leaking outside the boat?

Post by tdsull »

I was winterizing the boat yesterday and noticed water leaving the stuffing box and dripping outside the boat onto the shaft. Is this normal? I can't ever remember being under the boat while the engine is running on the hard. Usually I am just peering over the side looking for a pink stream.

Working as designed. The whole ideas of your dripless shaft seal or a stuffing box is to lubricate and cool the shaft and cutless bearing. The water entering the dripless seal has to discharge somewhere and that's out the back end of the shaft and in this design the two side ports of the housing. You should be checking this every off season.

We were in Sand Dollar only one day this year. We were out with a pair of our "nieces" .. .. you must've been one of the 28's nearby. That spot went from a handful of boats to packed in only a few short years. Are you white hull & I think green botton? Please, come by anytime.
