Shelves above foot of V-berth

Post by kerrye »

After seeing Anne and John's Sigrid a few weeks ago and the drawer above the v-berth I realized that the space above the foot of the v-berth is seriously underutilized so I decided to build a couple of shelves there. The top shelf will sit on top of the two shelves which run down the sides of the hull and the second shelf will hang beneath the top shelf. Material is 1/2" plywood with Teak Formica on top and oak trim around the edges to serve as trim, fiddles and edges to hold the shelves in place. Here's some pictures of the initial steps:

Nice! Our boat came with something like that, except just a simple shelf with 'fiddles'. Very handy & doesn't get in the way, assuming you're not one who likes to drop down into the cabin via the foredeck hatch.

In the compartment above and towards the bow from the V-berth. These shelves are aft of that compartment.

Almost finished. Just a few more cosmetic things to do.

So your feet will tuck under these shelves?

I hope so. I'm pretty sure they will. My boat is in NY and I am in CO so I can't confirm at the moment.
