That doesn't sound good. Last I heard I think airport security can pickup pins and plates. You need a note from your doctor.
It still amazes me how you bought a boat while you were in England and came over and sailed it and fixed it up as you went. If I had tried that with my boat it would of sunk. I thought I could but I was wrong. I'll have my 27 in the water in September. I have to go to work for a few weeks to make some money or it would be sooner. It want be done but at least I can try it. I guess I have to get pictures of my engine room on here it turned out pretty nice.
Good luck with the leg heal fast. Try homeopathic bone stitch. It's cheap and seems to work.

I was successful removing my shaft from the coupler by cutting two pieces of pvc pipe.One piece 1.5" id and one piece 2"id.I cut them to length to go from the shaft log and cuttless to almost the end of the shaft,minus room for a thick washer and a prop nut.I slid the pvc over the shaft ,in place of the prop,and placed the washer and nut on the shaft .I then used a 1/2" impact wrench to pull the shaft out about 1" ,installed spacers and repeated.The pvc was soft enough that it did not damage the log,cuttless or shaft.yet it was strong enough to do the job.I had left the coupler attached to the transmission.Good Luck,BMC*1987 Albin Express 27 LD 28

Hi Joe,
just curious where you were with your engine refit decisions.
I was lucky enough to do a 7 day cruise this summer on southern Puget sound during their heat wave.

We were using an '84 Nordic 26 ( 29' long?) with a newer engine an D2-75 Volvo , a 4 cyl with turbo.75 hp. I know volvos are expensive for parts and probably new, I've never priced them but this had all the modern teir-11 stuff. Electronic , common rail ,whatever.
Beautifully low reving, we ran 6 KT's 16-1800rpm , wot about 3000+.
You could not hear the turbo, no whistle whatsoever. Did not know it was turbo until I poked about in engine compartment.
The starting was electronic push button , no preheat, no smoke start up , impressive no diesel smell at all.
The most amazing (engine) part was we ran for 29 hours total and used 11.9Gal... Total. Not per hour!
I'll let you calculate the usage per hour.
What I'm saying is the modern electronic diesel engine with all the bells and whistle is a different beast. This one had 500+ hours when we used it I think about 2014 install.
Whether a modern electronic engine will last like the old clunkers I do not know but I bet the low stress of the carful engine management by the electronics has a lot to be said for it.
The lower hp versions might just be worth a glance at.
(It was just .41gal /hr btw)
