Replacement cockpit seats

Post by Matthew »

What seems to be the thinking on best replacement seats. One feature I do really like about the 28 is that my wife will finally have a comfortable seat that's dry and she can see well. Definetly need fold down arm rests. Hopefully the storage pocket on the back. Just a quick web search and those are pricey!! Must be a seat for a boat. LOL. Should we keep the pedestals or build a drawer for more storage?

Does the bottom cushion flip up on that as well for standing support?

No it does not bolster. But very comfortable even on a > 120 nm fishing trip one day.

Mike I am looking at that same seat in all white. Some pretty grim user reviews there around the seat and the recliner not working? Did you have any issues? Thanks

We have had zero issues they recline great and the sliders make turning aft a breeze.

I have a flush deck on my 28. Does anyone have any ideas on changing the Todd base to something else. My base has to be able to be removed to get to the engine hatch. Thank you

Not sure what you mean Rabiss? On my 2007 Flushdeck, mine are the Flushmount Pedestals, I think Todd's. To get to my Engine when I want the hatch fully open and secured, I unscrew the seat from the floor. Takes a few minutes of spinning the seat around. I can get some pics today if you want to see the specifics.

I have the same one. The bolt that goes up throw the base is broke. Therefore seat wobbles around. I was told that I could get another base for it, but I wanted to change it to another type of seat base if possible, and I was looking for ideas

I had the same issue with my original base. I upgraded to a 3.5 " pedestal the fits the same seat spyder and like it much better....no wiggle at all. Adding a base plate with the six screws allows complete removal. I think it's Garelick's model. They are very good on the phone.

I like the idea of upgrading that mounting system to a beefier setup, mine gets hammered when we are fishing in the 5 footers. Tom, would you have the details of what you purchased when you changed to the Garelick system?

Thanks

I was look at your idea,Tom But in order to get to the engine you have to take six screws out, what happens if you have an emergency and you have to get to the engine in a hurry? I do like that base. I was thinking about a 4 leg base you could put a turnbuckle to the deck and to the chair base.

Hi. The seat itself can come off very quickly then the hatch will rise about 2/3's of the way. The six securing hex bolts come out really fast with a small cordless drill or simple "T" handle wrench is pretty fast for a full lift of the hatch.

Rabiss, I had problems with the Todd base on my flush deck. Call Todd and talk to them, I was able to get replacement parts without having to pull the entire base. They were very helpful when I explained that the threads on the bottom bolt had stripped. I got 2 sets of replacements and instructions on how to perform the job.
Also, after you get the base repaired. Use an anti-sieze compound on the threads to prevent future problems. Also, make sure that the pedestal is fully screwed down before mounting the seat. If there is any play at all, the threads will strip very easily.

Hope this helps,
Jack
