69 Swed Albin 27 repower
New member, first post. Hi everyone.
I've got an old boat that needs to be repowered. This is one of the old ones. Does anyone know how many horses the old Albin engine was? Is there any engine that will drop straight in without modifying the mounts?

There is another group on Yahoo that specializes in the older Albins. I am not saying there isn't anyone here that might have the answer, but those guys are very knowledgeable about the 27s. I also belong to that group, but have been inactive there. You should also join their group to get their insight. You also might get a very quick response.

Reference/Resource Sites
You may want to do a search at:
www.yachtworld.com
for 27' Albins. At the moment there are 13 examples of the 27 on that site. If you look at the "Full Specs" they will probably list the engine details (HP, Model, etc.) to give you some ideas of what's on those sisterships.
Another online resource is: www.boatdiesel.com. They charge a nominal fee for membership, but it looks like a good resource.
Good luck,
Jorge

Repower
I appreciate the suggestions. So far, my request to join the Yahoo group is "awaiting approval", but that might be my fault for believing Yahoo's sign up sheet saying that a second e-mail address was not needed to sign on with Yahoo. (A second e-mail address is required.)
Albin Marine of the USA is completely separate from the original Swedish Albin company, and was unable to provide information on the Swedish Albin. So, I don't know if they have the same underwater lines. They look alike above the water line and have similar layouts inside (except one's wood and the other is frp).
The local marine repair shop wants $16000 for a 40 Horse Lugger with reduction gear. That's the smallest they are willing to find.
I'm starting to think it'd be cheaper to take this out and sink it, and buy another boat, than to repair it. Very depressing and frustrating.

Chilichuck,
The Yahoo Albin group will have more specific advice on the A25's and the A27's. This Group is great for learning more about all Albins. I keep thinking that I'd like a larger Albin. Started out wanting the A 36 Express Trawler, haven't convinced the real Captain yet! We need two cabins because the wife (the real Captain) doesn't sleep well at times.
As to your re-power issue, the Yahoo group has been discussing that issue for the past several weeks. But, the gist of what I hear is any re-power is expensive. The more one has to depend on someone else for labor, the greater the expense. However, engines are expensive, too!! I suffer sticker shock everytime I price one.
Best of luck,
