New HD Digital Raymarine Radar power Install (NEED HELP)
Im sure this will highlight my novice electrical skills , however....
I just upgraded my Nav and Radar system, from an old 2006 Raymarine E series to the new ES128. The Old model's cable ran direct from Radar on top to back of the console. The newer model splits at the console end and needs an additional 12v/24v supply via thermal breaker or Fuse.
As I look behind my existing E Series nothing jumps out at me as an easy connection, and I am weary of just hooking power up without knowing if its correct. I could supply pics, If anyone if familiar or could point me in the right direction It would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Scott

I would tap into power in the switch panel or off a power distribution block rather than off the back of the display.

Yes, mine has a clean power strip behind my E120 for ease of connectivity. I very much appreciated that when they did my original install. Did you keep your existing GPS unit and connect it via Seatalk or did you have to get a new one? I am looking at upgrading my E120 to Axiom next year, and dreading the networking.

If you can swap over to nmea2000 the networking is stupid easy.

Not sure on the 31 but the 28 has two buss bars behind the dash accessed through the bathroom cabinet. One is hot all the time the other is switched via the battery switch.

Run it from a clean supply straight from the busbar. Raymarine units are sensitive to drops in voltage usually.

Re: New HD Digital Raymarine Radar power Install (NEED HELP)
thanks Tree & Mike, the picture attached is taken behind my console, I see two copper busbars on the left and one SS on the right, are these the bars you were talking about? I thought I had to connect to my panel , I'm hoping this isn't the case. the bars seem much easier. (if you click on the pics they are upright not sure why the preview is sideways)

Yes one will be hot all the time (12 dc should be the one with the bilge pumps connected to it) the other switched from the battery switch. (power off when battery switch is in off position)

Re: New HD Digital Raymarine Radar power Install (NEED HELP)
Mike I have one more question if you could help, Ive figured out the two bus bars and which one is hot all the time etc. I know I connect my power to the bar, but stumped on where my negative goes, also what to put my ground to.
I realize its most likely an answer staring me in the face, I'm just hesitant before hooking my new system up and powering on until I'm sure
thanks
