Trim tab will go down but not up

Post by Serenity »

I have the original Bennett tabs. While going through a sloppy sea today, I was able to adjust the tabs down. However, when I decided to bring the bow up, the port tab wouldn't go up with the helm control. If I shut both tabs off, both tabs came up.

Any thoughts. The indicating led lights indicating no movement on the port tab.

I had a bad switch on mine that was causing the issue. I replaced the switches and the solenoids are fine.

Use a voltmeter to test the switch if is ok then you need a new pump...my pump was bad on shady so I had to replace the whole system.

The starboard tab is fine. The port tab will go down but not up by activating the rocker switch. The indicating led light works, when the tab is pit down. However, it does not indicate that the tab is being raised. For $80.00 I ordered another switch to see if that is the culprit. It is a lot more economical than a whole new system. To the best of my knowledge there is only one pump and since the starboard tab is fine, I do not think that is the issue. When I shut down the system, both tabs recede. What baffles me is when I try to raise the port tab, I hear the "motor" running. We'll see. I am calling Bennett tomorrow and what their thoughts are. Boating is great!

Could be a solenoid valve that isn't working right. My system was having issues so I scrapped all of the hydro stuff and went with the Bennett electrics. Have been very happy with them, have Lectrotab electrics on the cat boat and also very happy.

Solenoid. I had same issue. The switch will let you know when it's bad as there will not be return spring.
