Question on all-around white navigation light

Post by Cape Codder »

The navigation light switch on my dash when pushed left activates the anchor light above the cabin.
Pushed to the right, the bow red and green, plus the transom white light are on but NOT the white light above cabin.
Shouldn't the white light above the cabin stay when the others are on?
Do all 28 TE's have the same set-up as mine?

Nope, don't believe so. The all around white light on your roof is your anchor light.

When your anchor light is on, it lights both bulbs in the mast light on the hard top so it can be seen all around. When you have your navigation lights on, only the front bulb on your mast light is illuminated so it can be seen only from the front but your light on your transom lights also when the nav lights are on.

I have the same setup as Denis. When at anchor, switch down in my case, both lamps (forward 270 degree and aft 90 degree) are on. When the switch is up in "navigate mode" only the forward lamp ("steaming light?") is on along with my bow lights and transom mounted stern light.

(Just re-read my post and I wanted to clarify - the forward and aft lights mentioned above are both part of the same fixture, mounted near the forward edge of my roof)

Since the 28 TE is under 12 meters, while underway it can display either the transom light in conjunction with the forward half of the mast light, OR, it can display just the all around mast light (both, of course, in conjunction with the red and green side lights.

Did you check the bulbs? It should be on. I have read the regulations but around here you will get stopped.

Thanks guys.
I think that the forward bulb on the mast over the cabin might be blown.
I'll chack this weekend.
I'll get back to to you all on findings.
