Duplex marine wire

Hey guys,

I've been looking for some time for a source of duplex marine wire. I'm aware of the white jacketed black/red and yellow/red made by Ancor and others. That's not what I'm looking for. I'm looking for something very much like your standard lamp cord. (We used to refer to it as 'zip' cord) All of the interior lights on Sonny are wired with blue/yellow wire, the nav lights with gray/yellow, etc.

Can not find it anywhere! It must be used in the industry. It's so much easier to pull the wire to a location as a single piece, and it makes identifying the hot/ground legs of a run so much simpler.

Anyone know of a source?

All I could find on their site was jacketed red/black. Not what I'm looking for. The stuff I want looks like the cord to a desk lamp, only marine grade and two distinct colors. Also looks like speaker wire. No jacket. Can't find it anywhere, yet clearly Albin alone bought thousands of feet of it!!

I'll take a picture next time I'm on the boat. I appreciate the link.

Some previous owner of my boat used clear speaker wire to the anchor light and entire bridge electronics supply. So I used the jacketed tinned marine wire to replace. Someone also wired in the inverter with solid copper household wire. That is now disconnected and in the process of a re - wire. Why not use the jacketed wire? Too big to get through the holes?

Ancor makes tinned super flex audio wire...might fit the bill. Looks like zip cord. Just don't use wire nuts and tape like my po.

I've been on the hunt recently as well and am coming up blank. It has to be out there somewhere! I'm still hunting.

I just noticed this forum. You guys should check out Carol wire and cable, They have a great selection of the type of cable you are looking for You can also checkout AIW, aka American Wire and cable. They are located in Rhode Island. It is possible Albin used them when building the Albins.

Thanks Max! That seems to have pointed me in a better direction. American Wire and Cable (in Ohio - maybe they moved?) looks like a potential source if I can find a distributor.

Doug, you could check out an Electronic store like Radio Shack or an Electrical Distributor like Graybar Electric

Brining this post back - Has anyone found a source for marine "zip cord"? It's making me nuts! I've been all over the internet and can't find the stuff. It's on my boat, so I know SOMEBODY makes it!

Hoping to add some additional cabin lighting and really want to use the same type of wire as Albin did. I've even thought of calling Sabre Yachts to see if they use it and could help me out!

Give Orion Wire Co in NH a call. They made up my tinned multi conductor when I did my engine alarm system. Very helpful folks. 603-787-2200

Doug, try Markertek, West Penn Cat# 77293 18/2 shielded tinned conductors w/ overall jacket.

After I posted above I ended up going down to the boat and finally taking a good look at the wire I'm trying to "copy". For the life of me I couldn't read the manufacturer markings on it. I COULD read one on my big battery cables and got to wondering if it was the same company that provided all of the wire. Got out my fancy iPhone , did my best to get some light on it and snapped a picture so I could zoom in. It WAS the same!

So, mystery solved. The wire on Sonny was sourced from Cobra Wire and Cable (cobrawire.com) in Hatboro, PA.

I'm going to call them in the morning and see if the cable I want is a stock item. If not I'll reach out to the sources you guys provided.
