Microwave Oven for 28TE

Post by Dudley »

The Samsung Compact Series MW2000U measures Width=18", Depth = 11.5", Height = 8" and some sites say 9". I have spent hours looking for a replacement. Ten years ago someone wrote that he had to rebuild the area where the oven goes because he could not find one small enough. If anyone knows where I can buy a small microwave, please let me know.

I found a Black and Decker 700W microwave at Target a few weeks ago that fit with some effort. Working on securing it with a trim ring right now. I'll try to get some pic's posted when completed.

I found the right size microwave at Kmart.

I have a picture of but I do not know how to post the picture.
it was 1/2" too tall. I used a multi tool to remove 1' from the face of the cabinet. It is the correct depth.

There is a plastic bar at 10" high just inside the top of the cabinet. You can easily remove it.
The Microwave oven is OSTER ;Model: OGT6701

it is 17.4 inches wide.
it is 11 inches deep
and 10.5 inches high.

Once 1 inch is removed from the top lip of the cubical the microwave slips right in. After removing the plastic cross bar it goes all the way to the cushion on the side of the boat. I was able to press the microwave all the way in so that the face is flush with the cabinet.

I have wanted to replace this microwave for 10 years. Now all I need is a new Stovemate model SM-1600. I cannot find one anywhere.

Disagree in my case. The cabinet face would have had to be cut down. Mine was not a plastic cross bar.

For the microwave to work I have to be plugged into shore power. The new microwave looks so nice that now I have to have the refrigerator rusted edges sanded down and repainted.

My 28TE is a 1994 production. It seems that other years may have a different cabinet arrangement. Also, in my case, the face of the microwave is flush with the face of the cabinet.

Another problem I had was with the GFI. I remember that years ago the microwave suddenly did not get power. In my case, to the right of the microwave are two drawers and to the right of that is a cabinet that housed the GFI. At that time I simply reset the GFI. Last week, however, the GFI would not reset. I finally learned that power was coming to the GFI but neither plug would supply power. I found a spare GFI in my tool box and after spending over an hour trying to wire it up I learned that it was bad too. I bought a new GFI and installed it in 5 minutes and suddenly I had power.

Well I wrapped up the microwave and new stainless latches project today. I'm really happy with the looks, hope I can figure out how to post the pics!

That looks terrific, MM! Now you need a new faucet to go with it. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=9716&p=61904&hilit=faucet#p61904

Funny you say that Nancy... I've spent the last hour researching faucets for the galley, head and shower. I really want to upgrade the faucet to single lever faucets for ease of use, has anyone done this? One project at a time! :)

I think DJ's faucet might be single handle (see photo in the other thread). That turns it into more of a project as you'll likely have to move the faucet like DJ did for handle access and clearance.
