Cummins Forum at Seaboard Marine

Post by RobS »

On the website of Seaboard Marine I assisted in the development of a Cummins Community Forum which is up and running and really starting to come together. Cummins is not the most common powerplant in the Albin line-up but they are certainly out there. With John's permission I am posting a link to the forum.

That's exactly what I told them Doug!

It's been a fun, rewarding and time consuming endeavor. Timing was good though as the boating season is dwindling down and my business really starts hopping come winter so now is sort of a "intermission" for lack of a better term..

We all know that Tony is the Cummins guru and that really applies to all "boating systems" but what really compliments him is his son-in-law Corey who comes from an IT background so he is the man behind the website, the new forum and all of the electronic components they are selling and the troubleshooting and support of all the gismos on the newer electronic engines..

The new forum should be unique - it will not have the flying of flaming swords and throwing of rotten tomatoes as on the Hull Truth and it does not have to be "all technical" like boatdiesel..

Hope to see my Albin friends over there and I will surely still be hanging around here as my Albin roots lie deep, 10 years here next year..

The Community Forum is and will be another great asset for all diesel owners. In my 12 years of being a marine diesel owner I can't express how much I've garnished through Boat Diesel, Tony's time on that forum and all of the links to Tony's Tips. Through my time on AOG Rob & RicM turned me on to Boat Diesel in 2006. What a great group here and there as well. Seaboard's Community Forum will be another strong link.

From what I've learned through Tony regarding spillover & "doomed to fail" I took on a an exhaust refit from the turbo to the muffler on my 31TE this past spring. When things settle down I plan to post the project (with pictures) on the Community Forum as well as here.

Rob, you're a good man to be sticking with us here on AOG along with your time and article contributions on Boat Diesel. I'm thrilled that you were on board early with Tony and Corey!

Thanks Kevin, appreciate the kind words.

BTW, Kevin, I must have missed your posts over there, I'll have to try the Search function :D

Not sure how man AOG'ers are on Downeast but here's a link to a post over there about the new Seaboard Forum
http://downeastboatforum.com/downeast-b ... forum.html

By demand, we've also just added an "Other Diesels" section.

As far as Boatdiesel, I will continue there as well. Peter did provide me with free lifetime level 2 membership when my article hit the library so I plan to contribute where I can between the Yanmar, Cummins and ZF forums. I say where I can because with all of the pro's over there a contribution from a DIY owner like us are much less important but do have their place. Contributions aside, the years and years of info on that site makes for quite an extensive source of reference.

How I wish we had this available in the winter of 2014-2015 when we had to have a reconditioned head - post 1990 installed!

Rob, we moved to Cape Cod (Falmouth) in 2014 after I retired. Paumanok is at Kingman Yacht Center in Red Brook Harbor , Cataumet (west end of Cape Cod Canal) in the summer and this winter we were able to secure a place on the hard at the Sandwich Marina (east end of Cape Cod Canal). They let you do all of your own work including sanding and painting bottoms or bringing in whoever you want to do work. Very rare these days. We are one boat away from A 28 "Stella Maris". Haven't met anyone from her yet but maybe this spring. We still get out to BI at least once a season but have Cuttyhunk and MV only 2 hours away - awesome. Cape Cod Bay, Provincetown, Cape Ann, and ME are all very doable trips - this is boater's heaven. Hope to see you "out there" again sometime.

Marcy, Sounds awesome for sure. Out that way you really need to travel the seas on mother nature's schedule but being retired sure helps! Congrats!
Hopefully the "cause" of the head failure was understood and not ignored..
