Synthenic Teak

Post by tadel001 »

Just came from the Annapolis Boat Show. Thinking about installing synthetic teak over the cockpit out side. Anyone tried this stuff? it is about 1/4" think and glues to the deck. I have a 31 TE.

which brand? lol. I have samples of plasteak, plasdeck, as well and the lonseal flooring. All three are solid products and while I haven't used any of them myself (yet) we are planning on redoing our cabin on the 28 with it in the near future. We are considering doing the cockpit and the helm at the same time. We have not decided which product we are gonna use yet, but there are a lot of quality products out there. I will say plasteak also makes swim platforms, and we just installed one on our 28 and its beautiful...couldn't be happier!

That looks great. What products did you use? Is that adhesive teak vinyl in the cabin?

Did you do the work your self?

We used Nu-Teak and had a contractor do it. The cabin is synthetic teak and holly. There is a copy of the quote if you search my posts. More money then I wanted to spend but the commodore let me buy her... Sooo

Catalina Mike: Your nu -teak looks really great. I have seen it on swim platform as well. I assume it has not water issues?

If the bimini is not up and you are barefoot in the sun yes it gets warmer than gelcoat.. Not as hot as the deck my Regal had.

I installed Plasteak on my previous boat, a Beneteau 423 two years ago. Spent 9 months in Mexico with it and it still looked new when I sold the boat this year. The materials were of good quality and the installation was easy. We chose a lighter color than true teak but it still got pretty hot in the tropical sun. I documented the project here:

I used Dek-king. Had it installed by the rep. Did the work work myself. Having watch it be installed, it does not appear to hard. The biggest issue is templating. It definitely makes the boat stand out a lot more. The blue hull and teak cockpit with wood are great.

As others have commented, your boat looks great!

Thanks for sharing the manufacturer as the original owner of my 31 had synthetic teak installed in the pilot house and down below in the cabin and he had misplaced his receipt to be able to share whose product it was. All he could tell me was that he had met the distributor at the NY Boat Show and that the distributor was out of NJ and did the job at his marina. I've been searching long and hard for the match and manufacturer and you've just provided it. Thank You!

I have the Teak/Cream colored product and the teak is the most realistic synthetic that I have ever seen with it's true grain plank look and caulking colors. I've been very pleased and have wanted to add it to the cockpit steps as you have done and possibly the shower stall and head.

Again, your boat looks great, thanks for sharing and enjoy that great look!

I've been debating showing the photo to Kathy - I think she'd really like it! I want new electronics first though...

tadel001 - did they also cover your cockpit drawers? Or was that done in a different way?
