Upgrading the galley stove 28te

Post by Pedro »

I'm wondering what type of single burner stoves are a better replacement for the el cheapo butane stove that came as original equipment.Every time I take it out of its portable case, it just says feels hokey and temporary,I could always secure it but its doesn't seem very rugged,Any thoughts,?Pete,,, I don't have an onboard genny, (portable Honda for longer trips)

Which stove do you have now? Mine wasn't in a case it was screwed in place. Do you want to stay with butane? Unfortunately anything other than butane is gonna be a fair bit of work. I have a stainless click to cook stove. It produces a few more btu than the non stainless version. I've only used it once and it was ok for butane. I did play with the idea of going propane but seemed like a lot of work for little gain. Despite having a genset I didn't think the cons of electric were worth it either. The major benefit is I could have put in a two burner flush electric where the single burner butane currently resides...

Ours had the little butane stove that was kind of propped up in the pocket. One of the first projects I did was to remove it and install something different. We went with the Wallas diesel stove/heater. I think it is the 85DU model. Not sure if you can tell from the pictures but it is a 2 burner stove. Heats the cabin nicely when the blower lid is down, and cooks great when the lid is up... with the wife's help of course.

The installation was pretty straight forward. Had to run the fuel line back to the main tank with its own dip tube. Also had to install the exhaust thru hull behind the fridge. The most difficult part was gathering the courage to take the angle grinder to the boat. It's a pretty big cutout you have to make. Very pleased with the results though. If you cook a lot on the boat this is definitely worth it.

I don't remember the brand but it's def not stainless, I'd consider a better butane unit and just screw it in place. That combo Heater unit looks cool ,but I bet we upgrade to a 31 by the time I do that much cooking,my daughter keeps growing and after owning the 28 for three years I can see us out growing the 28 at some point,

DJ,

What model of refer do you have? My Wallas install is a bit wonky because the refer is too big and the bottom of the Wallas hits the top of the refer unless I jack it up a bit with 1" spacers.

You seem to have plenty of room and my solution might just be to replace the refer.

Thanks in advance.
