Re: RayMarine Schematics
I have a colleague here that sends out units for product testing at Raymarine. I'll drop him and email in the morning to see if he can help. Otherwise I'd be looking at just replacing the screen. The C80 units are always on eBay etc and go for pennies these days since they're over 15 years old. Shame you're not this side of the pond, I know two people with C80 screens just kicking about!

Re: RayMarine Schematics
A jockey board is a small board that plugs into the main circuit board with straight pins normally or sometimes a ribbon connector cable. If you can't see how to take it apart easily I would find a electronics repair place to do it.

Re: RayMarine Schematics
Thanks, Tree and Mike.....I guess if it is just "loose" I will try to make sure the connections are tight.....then go from there..........Not sure how to get to the innerds, but guess I will figure it out....I suspect that I have to go through the panel behind the medicine cabinet in the head....

Re: RayMarine Schematics
Final Report.....It panned out good..........I went to the site recommended by Nancy....I did some additional searches and found a chain between c-70 owners and Raymarine..........considering it all, including the replies, above, the problem was gong to be: 1. a loose power connection; or, 2, a loose jockey board; or, 3, some electrical part that went to digital heaven..........so, I took off the plastic front panel, intending to remove the next layer held in with about 17 screws a watch maker would love....my intention was to check the power cord connection and then the jockey board......then, I remembered that there is a panel behind the mirror in the head and thought I should look to see if I could access the power cord, there........Success.....long story short.....the power cable could be tightened about 1/8th turn and then it worked.....so, nothing too horrible......
Again, thanks for your input.....

Re: RayMarine Schematics
Ha ha ha! Another example of my mother's first law of physics: It won't work if it's not plugged in. I can't tell you how many times it has proven to be true, especially on a boat.mjohnh wrote:Success.....long story short.....the power cable could be tightened about 1/8th turn and then it worked.....so, nothing too horrible......
Glad it was so simple and that you got it resolved.

Re: RayMarine Schematics
What boggles, however, is that there was power to the screen all along....it was half very dark and half very light with a black 1" strip down the side......I wonder if a loose power cord can still supply enough power to result in that screen without actually showing the charts?????? The power cord is a 3 pin plug....maybe one had a very weak connection, but I am beginning to worry that the whole "fix" might have been "happenstance"....and the power cord, though slightly loose, was not the problem........so, now i will worry that the issue will resurface when I am out on the big lake..........you would think that a Marine named Ray would be more dependable...!!!

Re: RayMarine Schematics
Today, the C-80 worked fine for about 1.3 hrs and pixilated......then, loose jockey board was found and fixed.......

Re: RayMarine Schematics
There are several working C80 displays on eBay for a few hundred dollars. Swapping it out might be the easiest and least expensive way to solve your problem. If you have local marine electronic shops they sometimes have working units that they removed from boats being upgraded.
