1986 Albin 27 FC

Hi all, I am seriously considering the purchase of an Albin 27. The Nissan 78 hp engine has 3000 hours. Would this be considered to be high. I believe the boat was well maintained, used in fresh water only and had the timing belt done in 2014. Also I'm wondering if it would be safe to trailer this boat long distance, say 1000 mile??? I can't comment on your other post because I have no experience with the Nissan diesels in boats (although I love my Nissan trucks...lol). However as far as trailering it 1000miles that depends on the condition of the trailer and what your towing it with...

Welcome to the form, the Nissian is a nice motor, well built bottom end, smooth operating. I would pay particular attention to the cooling system and the exhaust. Some of these parts are more than a little problematic to replace. Should not be much of a problem to trailer if set up to support boat correctly. Personally I would look at the 27 as a moveable boat more so than a trailer boat. Hope your plans all work out. Thanks, Mark.

Check your messages, I sent a long winded discussion to you.

In short, I have been very pleased with my LD28. Regular maintenance is key, so the fact that someone put a timing belt on it is nice (maybe it broke under way!). It's not the most fun job. Parts are oth there, Rock auto is good search for early 1980 Nissan Maxima diesel. Lots of engine parts are interchangeable with the marinized version in our boats. Manuals are here in the library section. They are nice motors when maintained. A little noisy but very efficient. 3000 hours is nothing to be worried about, I'm rounding 2400 hours soon.

Get a survey, ask for service history if possible and get a pro to evaluate the engines running condition. Protect yourself when buying any boat!

Mark Desser makes some good points. I have a 1987 Albin 27 FC with the Nissan 78hp engine and am very happy with it. My mechanic says that it's the quietest diesel that he has worked on. It runs well and I've never had any issues. Of course, maintenance is key/ You're better off to pay up front for the required maintenance than run into issue on the water. John
