Albin 28TE on Live TV

Post by djpeewee »

The last 2 years we have been attending the Seafair hydroplane races in Seattle to spend 4 days on the log boom watching these insane jet turbine powered boats racing at more than 200 MPH. Not only do you see the hydro races, but you also get the best seat in the house for the air show. Tons of aircraft including the Blue Angels fly directly overhead as low as 100'. It's one of Seattle's biggest events of the year, and the entire weekend is broadcast on live TV to many. It's billed as the largest floating party in the world.

The trip is about 150 NM round trip and takes us from Port Angeles, through the Ballard Locks, through Lake Union, and into Lake Washington. It's a pretty interesting trip, going from salt water to fresh water, and cruising by some of the most iconic Seattle landmarks and some of the most expensive and sought after real estate in Seattle. Of course, being on the log boom and watching the inebriated inhabitants is quite interesting also.

Each year someone inevitably texts us during the weekend saying "Is this your boat?" with a screen capture from the live TV broadcast. Sure enough, it's us. Not that any of the other hundred thousand people notice, but it's nice that the Albin is unique enough to be recognized among the other thousands of boats there. Too bad there aren't more Albins there.

I like that 2nd shot, I guess that's you on the bow?

And that boat to your port, maybe it's a 30 Pursuit Express, he's sure got a lot of "stuff" !

You got it! That's me on the bow taking in the sights.

And you nailed the Pursuit. The "stuff" was all of their Seahawks gear. Pretty funny - they had a life sized cardboard cutout of Russell Wilson on the deck which you can't see in the photo. Everyone in the water wanted him to throw cans of beer to them.

A few more pictures now that I found them:

Not an Albin, but would consider as a trade!
