A-27 photos on a trailer
Hello,
As we continue our search for an A-27 we realize we have only seen one photo from Yachtworld of this boat on a trailer. The closer we looked at the photo it became clear that we could not tell how the boat was kept on the trailer while being towed. So my wife and I are asking anyone to post some on the trailer photos and description of how it is fastened to the trailer. Our previous A-25 had a winch eye on the bow and we used compression straps on the stern. But the A-27 being so much heavier does not have the bow eye is one of our guesses. Feel pretty rookie-ish in this matter now.

Re: A-27 photos on a trailer
Most of the earlier model 27's did come with a bow eye - If the one you eventually get doesn't, it wouldn't be too hard to install one
Ours was held on the trailer with the bow eye and a compression strap across the back, just in front of the aft cabin. Our trailer had the boat sitting pretty level on the trailer and the side bunks curved to match the hull, so there was no danger of the boat moving, either forward or aft

Don,
Would you happen to have a photo of your boat on your trailer? Do you have a double or triple axel trailer?

Photos A27 on a trailer. I have a bow eye I recently redid. I use a strap across bow and aft. But one would be enough. There's close up pictures under various threads about the rudder a keg and keel plug. You may have to do some searching

JT, thanks for the photos. What did you back the eye with? Not sure what you meant by the skeg and keel plug. I tried searching but did not find a relevant topic.

Re: A-27 photos on a trailer
There are several threads in this forum where people discuss the rudder skeg and the keel drain plug. In those threads you will find additional photos that may show the placement of the trailer bunks and the keel support on the trailer.
I just redid my bow eye. The old one was loosely attached through the hull at the anchor locker with no sealant. The backing block appeared to be a black rubber dock fender or something. I glassed in a piece of 3/4" coosa board reinforced with mat and thickened epoxy and reinstalled the eye bolt.

It's a double axle trailer. I built it myself. Two 6,000 pound torsion axles (no springs) with 10 ply, 16 inch truck tires11kolive wrote:Don,

Don, now that s a Crocodile Dundee "this is a trailer ". Nicely done. The gooseneck is a great way to do this. I am set up for a goose neck already.

Re: A-27 photos on a trailer
Sold it a couple months ago . . . . after we ran it aground in Jacksonville Florida and partially sank it
For me, a gooseneck is the only way to tow something this long and heavy, for sure if you're going to use it for freeway travel. I built the trailer because finding a gooseneck to buy was nearly impossible. The other option would be to buy a good aluminum trailer and have it modified to gooseneck configuration. Aluminum would be the best choice of you're intending to back it in the water the launch and retrieve the boat - We only launched and retrieved at boatyards with a Travel-lift

Not a very good picture, but a double axle aluminum. It tows pretty good. I pulled it from Ft. lauderdale to Texas over 1000 miles last year.

Captnickm,
Nice looking trailer! Is it bunks or rollers? Would you mind if I asked for some photos of the bunk area to see how it is fitted?
