We are unable to put down the anchor. We use the up/down switch but there is no response. No motor seems to come on.
What else do we do?
Is there a possible electric issue?
We need to try and fix it before Sunday.
Any help is appreciated!
We have an Albin 29 TE

Re: Can't get the anchor to go down.
Firstly, what is the manufacturer of your windlass?
First thoughts would be that the thermal overload break switch needs to be reset.

Re: Can't get the anchor to go down.
I am not going to reply to all the other posts.. So I have chosen this area to respond. Ha Ha
The windless typically will have a separate breaker. Mine, 28 TE, is located under the dinette in the front of the vessel. There are small wires that run from the thruster to the help and the switch located at the helm for remote control and are fed from the same circuit that does the windless itself. My vessel also has a wireless remote that is fed from a separate circuit. So I could just have a issue with the remote circuit if only my wireless control did not work. Every vessel is different so it depends on what you have. Check power at the windlass breaker first then check the relays used for up and down. Then check to see if the motor is just stuck but you would hear it trying to turn. Good luck..

Electrical issue = YES.paulamaxim wrote:We are unable to put down the anchor. We use the up/down switch but there is no response. No motor seems to come on.

Three points to check:
1). (as mentioned) breaker
2). Up/Down switch
3). Switch box / if factory installed by Albin, you'll find it up top in the anchor locker. These are notorious for corrosion and ultimate failure. I replaced 2 over 9 years on my 28. Dampness will be its demise. My 31 has the switch gear in the same location. I spray the switch box connections with Corrosion X at the beginning, middle and end of every season
Check for loose and corroded connections, Power & ground with a multi-meter or a simple power tester.
These simple steps will get you out of the gate.
